The base of the statue of King Constantine I in Pedion tou Areos Park Athens: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=18246991&size=lg K-5 IIs, DA 18-135 Comments, criticisms and suggestions are invited.
Pedion tou Areos means "the Field of Ares," similar to Champ de Mars in Paris. It is the largest park in Athens, and was designed in 1934 to honor the heroes of the Greek Revolution of 1821, 21 of whom are depicted in marble busts in the park. Millions of euros were spent revamping the park in 2010, but then it was completely abandoned to its fate. Efforts to clear nearby Tositsa Street, next to the National Archaeological Museum, of drug addicts and dealers have pushed them to the park. where they gather mainly behind the statue of King Constantine I. The decline of this park part of the decline of the city of Athens, characterized by trash, graffiti, unwalkable sidewalks disorder and official disinterest. It is sad and most distressing.
