Can I de-lurk and Bitch? Fourth SDM focus motor just died. That is three into the DA* 16-50/2.8 SDM. It is now Awaiting shipment out for repair. And then yesterday, and again today the DA* 60-250/4 ED IF SDM just failed. I will simply ship them together -- when they both return the 60-250 I will have SDM Replacement Motor Number Six. This is horrible abuse of a customer. These lenses should perform. These are not cheap consumer lenses. And they are not on cheap cameras. K-3, K-5ii, K-5. So now after this colossal failure rate I'm supposed to get excited about a K-1 and similar results after buying a couple of new lenses? Is the SDM motor just crap? Bought a Tamron 16-50 replacement as a spare on the 2nd DA* 16-50 repair -- Tamron has worked without complaint, and it gets used more. I have more confidence in it. And just got a Sigma Bigma that covers the 60-250 and more. The motor in my DA* 50-135/2.8 SDM is the only one to last -- and now it will probably crater just
for spite.

I am not hard on them. Don't bang em around, don't use them on sports more than six or seven days a year. And never,, zero, zilch, no problems with non SDM lenses. Got them going back to manual focus Spotmatic times, on the shelf ready to "adapter and go." I've even got a Contarex bought new in 1962 that still works. O.K. One of the Zeiss lenses needs a CLA, the 50mm f:\2. The other Zeiss's are all right. That's a 54 year old camera! And these lenses can't work eight years? (16-50) Obviously not. Can't even work three without going into the shop. The 60-250 is two years old. Where is my consumer representative? My Ombudsman? What is the solution? Pull out and sell-out as so many of our hotshots have done -- eh Cotty? Help! Anybody! SOS.
