Well not a show so much, but an outdoor festival. I'm not selling the
prints, been there done that got the tattoo. However I went to the
Branford Festival, on Saturday, kind of a tradition with me, and after a
filling all you can eat pancake breakfast, I wandered about the booths
of the various vendors and civic organizations looking for interesting
photo opportunities. Maybe I'm just jaded but I didn't see any. I did
strike up conversations with some of the participants, three or four of
which were memorable.
The one that stands out was the only actual photographer exhibiting this
year, (there were a lot fewer booths this year, a lot of what I would
call, regulars missing). This guy, I forget his name, I should have
taken one of his cards, was exhibiting fantastic bird photos.
Crisp, sharp, well composed with the birds from Eagles to Egrets, and
the occasional small song bird, in classic and unusual poses.
Printed to 8x10 framed or matted, priced to sell, and I mean really
priced to sell. Looking at his work I felt inadequate. I don't know
what system he was shooting, I expect he could work with a box camera
and get great photos. I also didn't see a lot of interest in his work
while I was there. Which is too bad, I see great, and undeserved,
disappointment in his future.
