The DNG codec that Igor (& maybe some others?) suggested seems to be
doing the job for me.

By way of explanation, if anyone cares, I am still working out an
adequate naming convention for scanned negatives, slides & prints that
I'm trying to digitize. I made several false starts, and have instances
where an image has been scanned more than once & has been saved with
different names given.

I'm trying to sort that out while minimizing the amount of re-scanning I
have to do. Fortunately, all the locations where I need to actually SEE
the images to de-conflict them have only .DNG images.

Free commander will do something like this, it's not specifically
designed for it and you'll have to add a file compare program, (I
actually use windiff), to compare two files that look the same. It's
not an optimal solution, but hey it's free. I haven't found a program
that does what you're looking for directly.

Is there a program like windiff that allows you to compare two
directories and will display thumbnails of any images that are NOT the
same in both?

Or even display thumbnails for two different folders side by side?
