The Leica SL and the Leica M-D are the antipodes of the digital camera world. I've had the SL since last November. It is the most excellent full-feature, incredibly versatile, modern camera I've used to date, and replaces nearly everything in my camera closet.
The Leica M-D, by contrast, has and does little other than what a 1980s Leica M6 or Nikon FE2 does. No LCD, no options, no AF, no video, no AutoISO, no JPEG files. Just focus, shutter speed, aperture, ISO setting, and shutter release. It has a button you press to find out how much room you have left on the card and how much battery you have left. It has a self timer. You can set the date and time which is recorded in your exposures, you can install a firmware update. It stores raw files on the storage card. That's it. It's "the other camera" I've wanted for the past decade and a half. I bought one. I updated the firmware, fitted a neck strap, fitted the Summilux 35 v2. Twisted the focusing ring to minimum, set the lens to f/2, the shutter dial to auto, and set the self timer on. The firmware update evidently reset the camera because the file is numbered 0001. A fitting starting point, I guess. I dumped the M4-2 and all its bits out of my Tenba DNA 8 and stuck the M-D as accoutered, and the Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4, in the bag. Time to go for my walk.
