I think that removes too much of the foreground and loses the balance
between the foreground and the sky. The track could be just considered
a foreground shadow of you wanted to remove the white line along the
edge of the track with some content-aware fill.

The first has to be my fave. The vertical format of the first one nicely
compliments the format of the Milky Way. The third is nice, too, but I
find even the smallish buildings in the lower left take away from the
sparseness and the feeling of remoteness of the location (even though it
may not have been very remote). I might even try to clone out the one
small building in the lower left of the first one. One could almost be
observing our galaxy from a planet other than our own. You could create
lots of stories from the first one. ;-)
Thanks Paul, particularly for seeing the photos very differently from
me. That small building is a turn worker stand at one of the local
race tracks. It was kind of the point of the exercise, I was trying
to do night photos of the racetrack, hopefully with some meteors in
the frames.
Based on your comment, I recomposed a couple of my photos to take out
any signs of the track, or other habitation.

Do either of those work better for you?
For what it's worth, the rest of that series is here:

Not a lot of photos in this month's best of gallery. Most of my best
shots were very similar to each other.

Being old doesn't seem so old now that I'm old.
