Yes, the Devils are having a tough time with the cancerous Facial Tumor Disease spreading through the natural populations. The disease is transferred when an infected Devil bites another which, of course, they often do. It's taken a serious toll, with animals eventually starving to death because the tumors prevent them from eating. A number of disease-free populations have been established in Tasmania and on the mainland while research into the cause and treatment of the disease is carried out. Devils@Cradle is one of these captive breeding sites - where the photo was taken.
