I think a K body could be a bit too big for a sixteen year old girl. BTW,
I'll never understand what's so special about the K1000.

Rather than expend large volumes on a lens, why not a K1000 (with lens) to
help her learn
about photography. The camera she has is fine, but in my experience, the
K1000 is the
best tool of all.
