Side note you *can* set a timer where it will turn off after a period of time. I think it still wakes itself up to do cleanings though. I set this and it has never turned off, but after reading a bit it seems the automatic shutoff doesn't work when you use the printer wirelessly. Oh yeah, it does wireless printing. Kind of nice. I just leave it on. I would imagine its power draw in standby is pretty low. Canon mentioned it having a deep sleep mode that it sinks into.
