Well, another successful Gulf Coast Triathlon has been completed. We (I am
on the Foundation board) consider it the premier half-Ironman distance
triathlon in North America. We had a record field, and feel that we will
have raised a good amount of money to give back to the community.
I had no real job other than media liaison, and basic troubleshooter, and
when I got the chance - photographer. I concentrated on crowd shots and
shots of our magnificent volunteers in action.
I basically ran around with about 15 pounds of extra gear Friday through
Saturday. My kit was an MZ-S and LX for cameras (I used two LXen throughout
the weekend a non-skinned one when I wanted to use the winder). Lenses were
the A-24/2.8, FA Limited 77/1.8 in constant use with the M-28/2.8 and
A-50/1.4 in the fanny pack. I think I only used the 28 on a couple of
shots. On Friday and Saturday morning I was using the AF-400T on both
cameras. Then when needed I resorted to the flash on the MZ-S. This is a
big advantage along with the fact that I can use the 24mm with this setup.
The cameras worked flawlessly - as always! There were a couple of moments
at the finish line that I think showed why I enjoy the MZ-S and LX. There
were some competitors who just about collapsed coming across the line.
There were many times that I had to jump in and help them. Both cameras
were then subjected to sweat and water dripping on them. There were also
occasions when they had water rain upon them. Not once was I concerned
about them. They are workhorses and I enjoy being able to count on them in
all situations. The Nikon shooter at the line looked at me as if I was
crazy subjecting them to such an environment. There should be a commercial
in there somewhere ;-)
And Christian, one of the LXen I used was the 'beat to hell' skinned one.
Maybe I will cart it with me to Baltimore this week! I am still debating
whether to bring the MZ-S though.
I only ended up shooting only 9 rolls. Six were ASA 100 print film (the
Foundation board prefers working with prints), two were ASA 100 b&w print
and one of ASA 400 b&w. The b&w (TMax) were for me, but I feel that the
Board will like them. I use ASA 100 in b&w and have only used the 400 on
couple of times. I look forward to comparing the results with the 100. I
hope to be able to get them back before heading out of town.
Just rambling, but wanted to let people know about the weekend,
