I stayed over two nights on at the Phantom Ranch in a cabin... what a treat! between Christmas and New Years.. It was 10 ° F at the rim the morning

we mounted up and the next day at the ranch it was 60. I was very stiff after so long on a mule when I had not riddine in a a few years.. took a ten mile RT hike at the base to get the kinks out... It was an amazing experience - my present to myself for having had to endure Christmas in Houston because my mother was there...

I was never allowed to take a mule down - because of my weight at the time,
around 225lbs IIRC! So I wound up hiking down for a few miles but oh the hike
back up!

The mule helped.. I took this on the way down the trail on Mule back...

I got to be second to the trail leader because I had been a horse rider
when I was younger..

I finall got around to scanning this shot and cleaning it up
sufficiently (I hope)

This is froM December 1974 - when I first had my very own 35mm camera
(as opposed to using ex hsband's) I don't know the model

But I was shooting Agfa 100...
