Asahi is a decent beer. Of course, Asahi is a common brand name used by many unrelated Japanese companies. "Asa hi" means "morning sun," which is an alternative for "rising sun," the symbol of japan. (The Japanese name for their country, Nihon or Nippon, means "origin of the sun," a name borrowed from the Chinese, which view their own country as the Middle Kingdom and Japan as the land of the origin of the (ie rising" sun. I believe the largest Japanese newspaper is still Asahi Shinbun.
