Thanks Alan - interestingly, we were quite happy with the philosophy of the Cloisters, at least as explained in their information. Most, if not all, of the pieces exhibited were brought from Europe from buildings which were either being demolished or were otherwise in disrepair, and were legitimately bought. Each of them has now been incorporated in the Cloisters in a way that fulfills their original function, where possible: e.g. a doorway is used as a doorway, a window as a window, etc. Statuses and niches are combined in a generally very appropriate way.
