I think Thor Heyerdahl proved conclusively that the joint Viking / Egyptian 
expedition of 33BC led by Jostein Erikhnaten the Bone-free successfully used 
the Antikithera mechanism to navigate the Orinoco and the Missississippippi in 
sandstone longboats hacked from a single piece of obsidian, guided only by a 
stuffed cat. I saw it on National Geographic Channel.
