If you don't have the need to buy the latest, why not try out a discontinued model? I use a Kodak 4800DC and I understand it's now being sold at a heavily discounted price. I use it for my architectural work (as a kind of dairy) and its on-board 28~84 zoom covers my needs very well. Add on the wide adapter and you have a 17~something zoom which is neat for cramped interiors. It has a external flash jack which is mighty useful; build quality is good- I've been carting my camera around with me for over a year now on all my construction sites and have had no major problems. Good range of long shutter speeds/ manual colour balance options as well. Cons? Poor macro range and no focus assist.
