Should one *not* purchase the 55/1.4 SDM b/c of the focus system probems?
Or is the failure rate, while noticeable, still modest?
I had no problems with the SDM, FWIW. I don't think it was one of the
problem child lenses.
The thing is wisked sharp, but I though the bokeh was a touch nervous
for what was being flogged as a portrait lens.
I sold my version, and am now wishing I hadn't. Apparently it can be
made to work just fine on the full frame.
I have one and it works fine on my K-1. It seems to vignette just a
smidge in the corners, but that might just be the hood which is set up
for the APS field of view
The FA50/1.4 is a better portrait lens, it gives a smoother rendition of
skin tones, but is not as sharp overall. The 55/1.4 is sharp from wide
open to about f/16, after which you might notice a bit of diffraction.
