The key is that it is GLACIER produced - a lake fed from glacier
runnoff... I grabbed this abbreviated bit off the web for ya Jack..

What makes glacial lakes blue?
The silt is created when rocks underneath the surface of the ice are
grinding from the movement of the*glacier*. The rock flour is very light
and stays suspended in the*lake*water for a long time. The sunlight that
reflects off this rock flour is what gives the*lakes*their spectacular
turquoise*blue*or green colour.

Been there and another example in

The explanation making the rounds
was "ice melt." (?)

Very nice and peaceful photo.
Some 4 years ago, during my trip to Banff National Park in Canada,
I also saw amazing blue color (although more teal-ish) of water:

A frequent question that tourists ask there is what is the origin of such a
color. Someone told the story that some local guides feed to some naive
tourists that they regularly paint the bottom of the lake to get that look.

PS. I am getting a very subtle impression that the photo is very slightly
tilted (CW). This might be due to the shape+perspective of the shoreline in the
middle, amplified by the apparent slope of the mountaing ridge ... So, it might
not be real.
In the absence of a true "horizon line", the only "reliable" line would be the
vertical line connecting the image to it reflection. Those seem to be vertical, but it's hard to
judge given the blurry reflection.

Taken on the way home from Wanaka last month. I take minor variations of the
