Not true.  Its more complex than that.  MAny rechargeable batteries are
1.2V for example.  All batteries (I think) except lithiums gradually
drop their voltage as they get used up.    Why do you think your flash
takes longer to charge when the batteries are running out?  This is why
lithiums are soo good, the voltage stays constant (or pretty much) until
they are just about to die - they do not fade until the last minute.
Unfortunately, it means you get little warning when they are about to
go.  Also, some batteries last longer and/or are better for short
bursts, others for continuous output.
