They're becoming more common here in Michigan.
We have a resident pair at the local Metro Park and they're common at the
Seney Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Their call is prehistoric.

However, there are less than 400 Whooping Cranes in the world, so they
are like finding the proverbial needle. They are also waaaay more shy.
