In full daylight.

The helicopter doesn't fly into the shade very often  ;-)  and this
is a subject I don't try for after sunset.  It also spends most
of its time far enough away to have the lens set for infinity,
which is most of the reason I want so much magnification.
(When it does fly closer, I have enough trouble _tracking_ it at
speed that I usually miss the shot anyhow, unfortunately,
regardless of whether I manage to focus in time.)

Finally, I'll just claim any softness resulting from imperfect
focus is really motion blur...  

(Okay, so trying it first with Tri-X was probably a mistake.
Now that I've got this bracket built, I'm going to load up some
Neopan 1600.)
