My IMac has a fusion drive: a 3 terabyte spiny drive mated to a 125 gig SSD. It works quite well in that current projects are stored on the SSD, so when I return to work, the file loads immediately. It seems Photoshop uses the SSD as a scratch disk as well. My machine is fast to begin with, given its 4 gigahertz i7 processor, but the fusion drive seems to complement it nicely. Complex Photoshop operations seem almost real time.
