Well, let's see here.  My digital camera has a 4:1 zoom lens and
macro capability.  The focal length of the lens is 9mm to 36mm.
Ignoring image size and reproduction ratios,  which would give
you more depth of field, a 9mm lens or a 100mm lens?  Perhaps
you could understand it better if it was called depth of focus.
Perhaps you could borrow someones digital camera and figure it
out for yourself.  It's not rocket science.
