I have a Toshiba 4TB external drive in an OWC housing that has my Time Machine backup on it (1.8TB so far).
When I sat down yesterday, it would not mount. Eventually it did, and I ran Disk Utility, which gave me this message: Invalid name for directory inode (id=5966587) (it should be dir_5966587 instead of temp5966587) Incorrect number of directory hard links The volume Huge Ext HD could not be verified completely. File system check exit code is 8. Updating boot support partitions for the volume as File system verify or repair failed. Operation failed… Is there a way to repair the drive without erasing it? I’d have to buy another drive to hold the data, and I have no other use for one. Can the drive be repaired at all, or is it toast?
