I've always left the autofocus on the 5 point thingy - but it does seem
it might be better to use the single in situations like Pauls rather than
trying to do manual focus with my eyes at this point

True. The single point focus areas of all cameras are larger than what one Sees
can in the viewfinder, but much selective focus can still be achieved by using
one point. For example, by choosing a point on the bird far removed from the
branch, I could be fairly certain the camera was locking on the bird.

Ann, the center focus point on the K-5 is much larger than the little red
square, and one isn’t entirely sure what it has chosen until one sees the pix.
