My ME S fires without batteries. I don't think it was such a sweet deal. Someone knowledgeable about cameras has, IMO, taken advantage of someone less knowledgeable. If it were me I'd try to contact the original owner and let her know that the camera works well, and give her the opportunity to reclaim the camera or let the deal stand. IAC, that's not something I'd proudly announce to the list ... but that's just me.
