I’m fascinated with moments in flight. They reveal much about something we can’t see very well without the aid of a camera, because it happens so fast.
In the first picture, a female sparrow pushes off from a perch. She seems to be launching with a huge effort and instant velocity, as she shows motion blur at 1/1000th second. https://www.photo.net/photo/18409841/3394 In another pic, a male sparrow is captured in flight. His wings are probably moving at least as fast as the hummingbirds, although common belief would have it otherwise. Both this sparrow and the hummingbird were shot at 1.1000th of a second, and here we see at least as much motion blur as in the hummingbird pic.
