I think something has to be clarified there. The called it
"the world’s first digital camera."
I suspect, it should be "a the world's first self-contained camera".

The famous picture (circa 1974) of Boyle and Smith, the inventors of CCD (1969, Nobel Prize 2009), Smith and Boyle,

pictures them with a digital camera.
(It probably didn't have "recording" portion, but you still call a CCTV camera - a camera.)

Unfortunately, that article doesn't mention when they did that.
