A piece of plastic with some metal strips inside to jam batteries in?

I don't see that as good marketing, I see it as poor equipment level.

If I purchased a camera that didn't have these things included, I would return 
it for a refund and look elsewhere.

That said, I don't buy cameras blindly, I do my research ;-)

Tell me (anyone) - entry level Pentax DSLR camera(s) today - do they come with 
either a secondary method for powering up (eg a battery carrier or an AC 
adapter) ?
