This reminds me of the discussion of "Good, Fast, or Cheap: Pick 2".
In lenses it seems to be a few more than 3 categories, but you still
can't have them all without paying a metric buttload of money.
"IQ, small/light, Fast or Cheap" perhaps?

IQ, of course, can involve a number of things including sharpness,
color, bokeh, etc. The factor that seems to make the others more
difficult is "Fast". That requires larger diameter everything, which
is what makes lens weight go up. On longer lenses, internal focusing
might be a factor (where you don't want the lens to grow physically
longer by a lot).

If you want to see how beautiful a "slow" lens can be, snag a
Tele-Takumar 200mm f.6 preset. I got one from a PDML-er years ago for
$15 because it had oily aperture blades. (Those make no difference
whatsoever on a preset lens.) The sharpness and color-rendition of
that lens in bright sunlight is superb and you won't find a
smaller/lighter 200mm anywhere.. And who needs a fast lens in bright
sunlight? So it all depends on what you plan to do with a lens,
whether it is an appropriate choice or not.

For the ultrawide end, you are going to have to improve on the IQ of
the Sigma EX 10-20mm f4-5.6 DC to get my money. My favorite/most-used
lens. The extra stop or two of light would come in handy, but at what
cost?
