Not surprising that the compact digital camera is dead. I have had SLRs or DSLRs since 1966. For much of that period, I also had a compact camera for times when I didn't want to bring out the SLR. When Pentax came out with the Optio (and the ads showing it in an Altoids tin), I bought one, used it heavily and greatly enjoyed it. Since my fist iPhone with camera, however, I have not touched it or any other compact. My iPhone 6S performs more than adequately for every purpose that I might otherwise use a compact camera. It usefulness is heightened by the fact I always have it with me.
I am not ready to give up my DSLR. It still excels when image quality is important, but I am taking more iPhotos every day.
