In part, yes. But you can always frame a 35mm shot
anyway you want, assuming that you choose the right
lens. It's just that you lose too much detail in many
35mm shots to have both a subject and a background as
points of interest.

But my point in judging the contest is the same. It
was just too boring to view tightly framed animal
shots.  There were some nice gorilla and orang tightly
cropped portraits though.
