Echoing Christine, Jeffrey et al, Merry Christmas and a very happy holiday
season to all!
We are in sunny San Juan Puerto Rico. Flying back home tomorrow to cold and
snow.

A bittersweet time. A store clerk was so happy to announce that she got power
back last week. Another said it only took her 84 days. A cab driver said she
was without until two weeks ago, made it tough with no power or water in a 14th
floor apartment. Too many small shops closed (forever?) having gone for 3
months with no customers. Too many street people. But, holiday decorations
everywhere, families out shopping and dining together, loud music, just a
strong sense of resilience in most we have talked with. T-shirts proclaiming
the PR will arise again.

All in all, our brief visit has been a somewhat sobering reminder of the range
of people’s experiences and fortunes. Hope abounds...
