Very interesting, Dan. The one of the plane reminds me of a local incident some years ago. SA Airways used to offer historic flights on a Junkers JU52 & Skymaster (DC6B) flown by volunteer veteran aircrews. The Junkers with its slab sides was very susceptible to crosswinds. One day when it was landing here, there was a sudden violent crosswind which took it off the runway & into the Kruger Park boundary fence seriously damaging the right propeller & scratching the paintwork. The passengers had a free overnight stay while a replacement prop. was hurriedly brought in from Jhb. It was fitted the following morning & about 20 aerosols used to touch up the paintwork. After a delay of almost exactly 24 hours it was on its way again.
