Your image depicts them well - horrible things. They are a curse in SA,
having spread from Natal throughout most of the country along the roads &
railways inhabiting urban areas where they soon displace the indigenous
species. They were originally brought in from India by indentured labourers
in the 1800's. The first ones arrived in Phalaborwa about 7 years ago. The
local birders started potting them off but the bunny huggers soon protested
& put a stop to that. Now there are hundreds & they have even spread to the
camps in the Kruger Park.
