That is in fact the case. There is a long history of Norwegians with sled dogs in Alaska.
Robert Sorlie, a Norwegian, won the race in 2003 and 2005. The only man to win the Iditarod 5 times is an American named Swenson. Many of the mushers who carried the mail and food to gold miners and others in Alaska were Norwegian immigrants, although sometimes identified as Swedes. The man who organized the fabled relay of dog sleds to carred the Serum to the children of Nome, and who handled the two most treacherous legs of the tun, was a Norwegian immigrant, Leonhard Seppala.
