Your friendly PSA reminder:
Never allow any 3rd parties into your mail-services (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
... and especially social networks, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
First, they harvest all the addresses from your mailbox(es) and your
address book (if exists).
Then they keep sending to these addresses annoying invitations (on your
behalf!) to become "a friend" / connect on that social network.
It's akin subscribing all people you've corresponded with to an annoying
mailing list without their permission.
Besides (even if you don't care for spamming other people), - why would
you want any social network to snoop in all your e-mails?
Beside being a privacy issue (which you may or may not care for -
surprisingly, some people don't care), - it could be a security hazard:
You create one more depository (over which you have no control!) of the
information about your banks, credit cards, utility accounts, etc.,- all
the information that can be helpful for stealing your ID.
Now, in addition to your mail service, you get yet another set of servers
that could be potentially breached, and the information can get stolen.
And you don't know where that information could be sold to.
If this has happened accidentally, you should go into you profile settings
(on that social network), and disable access to your e-mail service, and
change your password for that e-mail service (or disable access token in
some cases with Gmail).
And just in case: Bipin, your LinkedIn profile has been spamming like
that for many years, and has restarted doing that again earlier this
month.
Cheers,
Igor
