I might try pretending I have a slide in the scanner with some sort of
dried plant or other translucent thingy and see what happens.. but
when the scanner is set to positive film the workable area is smaller

Not sure what plant it is, but they are dried leaves I collected
somewhere -- might be some sort of willow ?
It's a flat bed scan, and the shooting area of my scanner is about 9
x 12" , to give you sense of scale
