The cable switch is just two switches; I built my own for a MZ 5n. If you take a
voltmeter to the output pins, one will be at ground and the other two at ~ +3V? I
think the top contact is the ground. Shorting one contact to ground (don't remember
which one) causes the camera to focus (1/2 way shutter release button). Shorting the
other contact trips the shutter. You don't need any swich debouncing on the release,
it's already in the camera.

The pin spacing on my MZ5n is standard 0.1inch, so you can buy a matching header at
radioshack or any electronics store and cut it down to 3 pins.

I don't know if the MZ 6 has 2 or 3 pins, because I think my camera uses a
Cable-Release F. If it has two pins, it probably needs a few diodes to activate the
1/2 way setting. I read did some internet research, and apparantly this is the way
that nikon releases work. You just need to pick the right number of diodes.

I don't think that there's much harm in playing around with the wires as long as you
don't use any external power supplies. Unless the Pentax Engineers are idiots, all
the contact should be well protected.

That Nikon Circuit looked something like this:

(you will need a fixed width font to see it right)

<--------X--/---X
         |      |
         |      V
         |      |
         |      V
         |      |
<--------X------X

key

X = connection
V = diode
/ = switch
< = connector
