Anyone have experience with the different version of the DA 18-55 kit lens?

I've been working with the IR converted K01 and have found that my original version 18-55 lens is by far the best lens I have in terms of not having an IR hotspot. It is really rxcrllrny, with virtually no hotspot at f16 and wider. The 17-70 is very good, but at at f11 and beyond a hotspot is clearly visible.

But my original version 18-5 is not stellar in terms of sharpness and has a cheap feel to it, in particular wrt to zooming. From what I read the mark II version of this lens is a better performer and the WR version in particular has a decent build quality.

Has anyone used both versions and have opinions on the relative sharpness?

And is the build quality of the 18-55 WR on par with, say, the DA 16-45?

Mark
