Matthew, I have owned both. They are both great cameras, but have a different style to them. The MZ-S interface is more traditional and the PZ-1p is more Canon-like with spinning dials on thumb and forefinger. You really owe it to yourself to try them both. They handle differently and you may find yourself drawn to one or the other more. As far as features go, both are very capable. There will be some difference, but generally not that significant. If you were to list the features that you need/want before comparing the specs, you may find that both cameras would serve you well. Or, you may have one specialized feature that one or the other has. But, you really should handle both.
