Thanks Rick! I got lucky with the weather. Meg literally had tears in her eyes when we first stepped around the corner and saw the scene, it was just so otherworldly.
My family lived in Bolivia for several years when I was a teen. But I was back in the States at the point when my mother and brother went to Machu Picchu. I’ve seen their photos (and others’), I’ve heard their stories, and I am very pleased to have finally seen it through my own eyes. Like in many too-popular tourist sites, the Peruvian park service is slowly tightening restrictions on visits. No more all-day passes, soon if not already you need to be with a guide at all times, etc. Reasonable and necessary, but restrictive. If you have any thought of going, sooner is better.
