ah - I didn't realize quite what the drill was... re open studio and
style etc... that is, that people seeing your sign would think you were
part of the "tour"
as it were.
Your stuff really should sell

The signs are tidy but they say nothing about your photography...I'd
say you need at least one photo example on the signsor at least some
indication that
what you are peddling are photographsfor display as opposed to a
photo studio where people would stop to get thier portrait taken..
Thanks for the feedback Ann. I was just modeling my signs after the
ones I've seen for the open studios events that would generally just
have a number and something like photography or ceramics.
Granted, they also have entries in the event book and are listed on
the website:

On the plus side, I was talking to a friend and it didn't cost me the
$300 to officially be in the open studios, so it was a lot less
expensive for me to learn from all of these mistakes.

This is the weekend of the Santa Cruz Open Studios. I decided that
it was a good opportunity to put a sign out and see if anyone stops by.
The answer being that I didn't get anyone stop by from the signage
and timing. The good news is that it was good practice, I learned
some of the pitfalls and I didn't spend nearly as much money making
the mistakes I did as if I had submitted and paid to be in the
official event. I did actually sell a couple of metal prints to
friends for a very small margin.
