A couple of weeks a go a friend wanted to do a black light photo shoot. I wanted black floor covering but didn't want to risk getting brightly colored mess on my expensive fabric backdrop. When I was looking at my drop cloths I found a tub with some leftover french drain fabric, which my local lumber yard sells by the foot.
Online it comes in 300' rolls for less than $.50/foot:

So it makes a pretty good, very cheap, pretty much disposable black backdrop/floor covering.
