You probably don't want my opinion, but... I wouldn't buy any "new" computer that was older than the oldest model Apple will sell as a refurbished machine. And I only buy my Apple machinery from Apple.

It's not going to cost $300, but it'll be a far better machine that will last longer and with less problems. You'll get much more value out of it.
