Heh.  I don’t know of any bears in the area recently. There is a rather notable 
local story involving a bear and Mountain Charlie:

Interestingly, for many years I’d confuse Charlie McKiernan with Charley 
Parkhurst, another very colorful local who was about 12 years older.

While we don’t have many (any?) local bears these days, Bear Creek park is in 
the town of Los Gatos which was named for the cougars in the area. Mountain 
lions do seem to be making quite the comeback, and every few weeks it seems 
that someone will post a video that a security camera had taken of a cougar in 
their yard.
