Nothing weird about it. It could easily be Friday night at Grandfather Mountain's picnic grounds on Nature Photography weekend, except that Grandfather Mountain doesn't have a beach.

You'll see the same kind of gatherings all over the U.S. this weekend ... anywhere there's water & an open space to set up the grill & coolers and have a cook-out. "Last chance" to get out in the sun and soak up some rays.

Maybe summer doesn't officially end until mid-September, but UN-officially, it's Labor Day Weekend. With any luck, I'll get invited to at least one similar gathering this weekend, and I hope several.

The appeal of the scene to me, in addition to the intrinsic weirdness, is the
compositional similarity to Dutch landscape paintings, so detail is of lesser
importance, but a large-scale painting would of course reveal detail, though
not in photographic resolution.

I shot it with my Fuji X20, handheld, so it's not of plate-camera quality...
