Larry it's definitely a pain to share pics that don't originate from the phone cam or the app directly, they really don't want desktop access so that's why most solutions end up failing, not quite sure of the rationale there. That said I don't find it too onerous, I just have an IG folder in Dropbox which I pre-load from my desktop then export to IG from the DB phone app.
