The new Hasselblad 907x Special Edition arrived late last week. I'm just getting around to playing around with it, learning it.
It's a very special camera: a mix of Hasselblad V style ergonomics with the modern Hasseblad X system functionality and lenses. It's a modular camera too, like the V system, with separable back (the CFVII 50c) which can also be used on standard Hasselblad V system bodies, like my 500CM. In essence, this makes my entire four lens Hasselblad system kit into a digital capture system as well as a film capture system. The back has an electronic shutter capability which means that nearly any lens you can find a mount adapter to go from Hasselblad XCD mount to whatever can be used on this camera, albeit with some limitations typical of all electronic shutter implementations. I was playing around with it this morning and decided to try out my longest current lens, a Leica Elmar-R 100mm f/4 fitted with the 2x Extender-R teleconverter ... Here's the camera configured this way: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49640852226_7ab8e252c8_h.jpg The shot setup: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49640329288_3b52f56c61_b.jpg And the resulting photograph: Flowers – Santa Clara 2020 :: https://flic.kr/p/2iCxWUj The sensor has a huge 44x33mm format with 50 Mpixel capture resolution, and Hasselblad has tuned the imaging beautifully. Most of my Leica R and M lenses will cover the sensor cropped to a square (33x33mm format) and produce very satisfying results. The native Hasselblad XCD lenses, as well as their V system and H system lenses, can all be used and cover the full format with outstanding quality. I have one native lens at present, the XCD 21mm f/4 ultrawide, and will (hopefully) soon have the XCD 45P f/4 as well (similar field of view to a 35mm lens on FF format, and also very similar to the typical Planar 80mm normal lens on a Hasselblad V film camera). Those two lenses will be the basis of most of my work with this camera for a while, along with use of the back on the 500CM. I'm happy. :-) G — "We all get to be young and foolish in our lives.
