It could be that the experts are so often wrong.  I'm not saying that Trump is right, but it isn't too long ago that the experts, and the press quoting them were downplaying the effects of this disease, and now they're yelling from the rooftops that everything must be shut down.  Personally I'd like to know who I should believe, since I am one of those people who will probably die if I get it.

Right now Connecticut is essentially shut down,  with 160 or so known cases and 2 deaths.  The number of unknown cases is anyone's guess, but with the range of severity of symptoms this virus has shown, it's probably an order of magnitude, maybe two orders, greater than has been reported.

Finally in the shear idiocy category I've seen it reported that Rhode Island, the US state to the east of here has set up boarder checkpoints to turn away people from New York attempting to cross their border.

Here in the USA we get almost daily appearances by Trump in the briefing
room at the White House, or in the Rose Garden. He (and the particular
accompaniment of the day) are standing practically shoulder-to-shoulder
at the podium.

An interesting piece about these from the New Yorker:

“ respondents were asked what sources of information about the coronavirus they
found most credible. Democrats rated medical professionals and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention most highly. Trump came in last among this
group, at fourteen per cent. But, for Republicans, Trump came in at the top,
with ninety per cent saying that they trusted the President’s information about
the coronavirus, making him tied for first place with medical professionals.
The poll shows that, even when their own lives are literally at stake, a
significant subset of the American population no longer believes in almost
anything other than the President.“
