I don't have any advice.  I shoot mostly b&w, too (as you know), and have the same 
problem.

I think you owe Wheatfield a beer (he thinks two <g>), but he'll never see them, 
living in the Wild West and all.  I definitely think you owe Brendan a beer though.

I only posted this 'cause I want to be there when you buy Brendan his beer.  Sounds 
like an excuse for another TOPDML meeting to me!  ;-)
